Five Craft Beers for Springtime Sipping

Springtime means warm weather, lightweight jackets and blooming flowers. It also means being able to enjoy your favorite beers outside. Sometimes there's nothing better than a long afternoon enjoying beers in the sun. Here are our suggestions for some great brews to imbibe this season.

Bronx Pale Ale (in a can!)

Earlier this month the

Bronx Brewery

, one of the winners in the

2013 New York International Beer Competition

, released its flagship pale ale in 16 oz cans. While not a spring seasonal, the pale ale from New York City's northernmost borough was formerly on draft only, and in cans retains the same floral, citrusy aromas and biscuity, toasty flavors. Made with five different barley malts and Cascade and Centennial hops, the Bronx Pale Ale Clocks in at 6.3 percent ABV. This slightly bitter brew doesn't stick to your palate and is a great warm weather choice.

21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon

Available from April through September, Hell or High Watermelon is a seasonal wheat beer from

21st Amendment Brewery

, fermented with fresh watermelon. Distinct sweet notes of watermelon carry from the aroma through the palate. An incredibly crisp and refreshing beer, Hell or High Watermelon has a smooth mouthfeel and a slightly bitter finish. This brew comes in 12 oz cans and at 4.9 percent ABV, it's perfect to enjoy this season, making a lovely complement to light spring salads.

Blue Point Spring Fling

Spring Fling is a seasonal offering from

Blue Point Brewing Company

on Eastern Long Island, a winning brewery in the

2013 New York International Beer Competition

. A copper ale, Spring Fling is available from February through April. Slightly bitter but also sweet, Spring Fling has flavors of toast and biscuits with hints of citrus and honey. Made with German barley and American hops, Spring Fling goes down easy, with a 5.2 percent ABV.

Founders All Day IPA

All Day IPA, by

Founders Brewing Company

in Michigan, is available from March through September. Brewed to be a sessionable IPA, at 4.7 percent ABV, you really could enjoy this beer all day. Strong hop aromas on the nose lead to a clean palate with citrus flavors and a slight bitterness. The All Day IPA is light and crisp, and perfect for a lazy, warm afternoon. While only in bottles now, Founders will release All Day IPA in cans this summer.

Dogfish Head Aprihop

Dogfish Head's

spring seasonal, Aprihop, is available from March through May. Brewed with Pilsner and Crystal malts, Aprihop is made with fresh apricots and dry hopped after fermentation with Amarillo hops. This beer is sweet and bitter, with unmistakable apricot aromas on the nose. With a full mouthfeel dominated by hops and earthy, citrusy tones, Aprihop has subtly sweet hints of apricot on the finish. This beer would make a flavorful addition to a backyard barbecue.

Enjoy the beautiful, sunny weather and refreshing springtime beers! Cheers!
